I agree - what could be better than opening your door to find such cute scary monsters!

I thought you meant the door!

I'm a little ashamed to admit we didn't answer the knocks on the door last night.

But that's because we weren't prepared. If we had been, I can think of little more delightful than handing out confectionery to little children dressed as weird creatures. I think the newspaper should print ads reminding grown-ups (uh-oh there's an admission) to stock up in time for the 31st - since it's only going to get more popular.

Long comment. Courtesy of the after-work beer.

Children having fun is no doubt a good thing, but how about picking a less crassly commercialised celebration to adopt?

Strikes me as far less commercialised than Christmas, Easter, Mother's Day, Father's Day, Valentines Day...

Plus you get to dress up, which all the other celebrations are lacking.

And commercialised? We bought some raisins and jelly babies. Maybe $4?

Aaah, the joy of Lolly Begging Night. Sorry, but I still think it's crass.

Mother's Day and Father's Day have some sentiments of appreciation behind them. Christmas is an important religious and cultural festival in western tradition.

Valentines and Halloween, on the other hand, just seem to be commercially driven festivals recently imported from our US friends.

i put up a sign
"all trick or treaters will be skinned and turned into sausages"..
(with illustrations).

buy your own damn lollies, you mangy brats

But but but - what about FUN?

kids love it. I love it. I don't give a rats arse whether it is significant culturally, the only reason we celebrate Christmas is because we see family and get pressies.

I remember as a kid old people would always give you 20 cents. It was awesome.

Plus, we don't beg at strangers doors. We go to friend's houses and my parent's.

And once again, it is FUN.

Although some of us love to dress up.

But then, I think Mother's and Father's Day are VILE.

Go figure.

I personally have nothing against cute monsters knocking on my door. But that's just me.
