Modern Political Leaders

Imagine having Don Brash around for tea, or Helen for that matter. Can you imagine how tedious it would be? The only person I think might be bearable is Winston Peters, because even though he seems like a bit of a wanker, I'm sure he'd at least get pissed.

David Lange would've been great.

Nandor might loosen the mood a bit too...

Lange was a very funny person.

However you might find the other political leaders not as tedious as one would think. When they are not having to be careful politicians, some of them have a great sense of humour, and especially over a few drinks you end up with some side splitting stories etc.

Helen is actually very lovely in person. I'd have her over for tea any day. If I was the kind of person who let other people into my house, that is.

What do you mean, "was"? He still is!

I once attempted to have a conversation with Don Brash at a uni function - it didn't go so well. I was all up in the left politics having recently read 'No Logo' and done a paper on the negative effects of globalisation on all manner of things... and he didn't seem inclined to discuss the evils of privatisation and third-world exploitation.

Jessie - I know he still is! I was referring to politicians and he is no longer one of them.

Nandor could bring some of those nice mushies you were speaking of Llew.

Sarah and David - I know they're human and funny, but you know what I mean eh? Let them be a little more funny publically (publicly?!)

Actually, for just the sheer smartarse amusement factor, we need to get John Campbell into parliament. I can't recall ever having laughed so much during any other current affairs show.

I bet he loves a nice hot cup of tea, as well. In fact, he should be leader of our Party.

"Campbell! Campbell! Campbell!"
I think just having Helen and Don around for tea would be fun - after the first 30 mins of pleasantries they'd realise that the door was locked and it was only Grolsch and curry for sustinance. The party would then rock and roll ...

WTF is grolsch?

Does David Farrar get automatically notified every time a blog mentions a political leader or something?

Peter Dunne, Jim Anderton!

Seems to be quite a swag of them to choose from.

Not to forget Tamihere. I think he may be the red light.

David's a man-about-town. He needs to keep an eye on what's happening in Greater Wellington Central, that's all. One day he'll be unofficial Minister for the Internet, so be nice. If you want.

And Llew - Grolsch? Come on - at the offy down the end of our road years ago on OE it was one quid per tall can, brought back from the hypermarkets of Calais by semiprofessional booze smugglers who would regularly snap the axles on their Transit vans on the trip back to London. Goes well with curry.

Thank you Alan ... *sheesh*, Grolsch, mate - one of the finest mass produced beers in the world. Possibly helped by the cool bottles with the flip lid thing that most restaurants/homes turn into tomato sauce bottles (once emptied of massed prodced beer of course).

Mmmm beer

Ha ha - no I don't search on terms or names. Martha posted on someone else's blog (Alan's?) and I often check out the blogs of new people I come across, and if I like reading them stick them into bloglines, as I have done for Martha.

Pleased to have you here David. Pleased to have anyone here in fact, well, anyone I don't know. Bit alarmed my parents are now reading it... (yes hello)

David Farrar said...

Yes parents are a challenge. I try to encourage mine not to read my blog but to no avail. At least they do not comment on it yet.

Ah yes! Grolsch... for some reason I was envisaging something made from beetroot & onions...

But I know it (not well though).

And *sob*... I must be the exception to DF's rule... he's linked to everyone except me. *sniffle*, *grolsch* (that must be onomatapaeic, surely?)

Mmm, borsch. Crazy but delicious.

You've probably been blacklisted by DF for being a cheeky shit. Us ladies get away with murder.
