Gay Saturday

I'm trying to start a bit of a new trend in this household on Saturday mornings (to counteract all the manliness of soccer).

I'm completely in love with this song. It pulls on my heartstrings. I think only the gay heroes of the eighties in Britain can manage this angst. Although that doesn't necessarily apply to George Michael.

Enjoy it.

Oh, okay then, you want more angst than that? Well this one is for you. Try and spot Russell Crowe (not, but total lookalike).

What a wonderful start to the weekend. I hope their mums were wonderfully proud, although, if the narrative of the Bronski Beat vid is a life narrative, then apparently not. What shocks me now is how young they all look: "can I see some ID, please?" young.

The erasure keyboard player who is so cool he only needs ONE FINGER ON EACH HAND to play has even more sang-froid than Nick Rhodes.

Sorry my dear, but neither of those made me inclined to become gay. Of course in the UK, Saturday mornings are your evenings, so we get rugby from New Zealand. None of the contestants there make me want to explore an alternative sexuality either. Very sorry. Please advise. Do you know any men who look like Penelope Cruz? That might help.

Harvestbird, I think he was showing how amazing synths could be - the technology.

Vicus love, I know that you're just a ball of testosterone, so I would have been very surprised if they turned you. Wait til next Saturday though...

Errm [manly cough], I have a (too) large collection of Erasure vinyls and it wasn't until I was in the middle of a large croud at the Hammersmith Apollo that I realised what I'd gotten into. Was a damn great concert, even the bit when they covered "the good the bad and the ugly" and turned around to reveal jeans with butt cheeks cut away. The croud went wild.....I replaced my old LPs with CDs over the years but still prefer the 12" of Sometimes which was the first record I ever bought. Thanks for the memory jog!

Ahhh.... two of my favorite songs. I spent most of the 80s dressed like wither Bronski Beat or Vince Clarke.

But you forgot Those First Impressions by The Associates!

(You might also like Breathe from Erasure's last CD: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aJjPdiw3ne8)

Oh no, although I can cope with Bronski Beat the accompanying fashions are also just around the corner - and that's scary!

As much as we can't believe these things will return, the bloody will.

I'm waiting to see what grunge looks like next time around, all those plaid shirts and striny hair.
