Ready to mix
I'm going to make a christmas cake this year. I've just gone and spent about forty thousand dollars on ingrediants for the thing. Not to mention on a nice cake mixer to make my elbow grease last a little longer.
I admit I was mildly surprised to see decorations in the shops, but then suddenly you get to this time of year and have something on every weekend up til christmas, and it doesn't seem so far away after all.
Of course, a week before christmas there is a far more important date, we celebrate the birth of ME. Awesome. 34.
I might have a lie down now.

Brandy's bloody expensive, isn't it? And then by the time you get round to making the cake, it's all gone.
It is certainly a helpful thing to have in the house when you realise you're going to be 34 soon.
I remember being 34. It was last century. Now I need a lie down.
Mmmmm cake...
Quit griping about 34 - I'm 44 and feel extraordinarily decrepit.
How's things?
And remember, beware of Romans bearing big black radishes.
Well if you're feeling extraordinarily decrepit, then I'm only 10 years from it. Woe is me.
I'm great thanks. Just been down to the beach with the kids, I can sense summer a cumin in (loud a sing cuckoo).
And I'm quoting old English songs from primary school, so all as it should be.
You? Ready to emigrate yet?
You sponsoring?
I suspect New Zild would be pretty happy to have you.
We're strangely tolerant of foreign professionals.
There are a helluva lot of Americans moving here at the moment, can't imagine why...
I'm pretty sure the Christmas shop in Queensgate went up around my birthday* (first week of October). Sad and tragic.
*33. Total spring chicken in comparison to some people.
And yes, we love us some foreign professionals. Who the hell else would we get to drive our taxis?
Lets not forget the valuable role they play at Pak n Save too.
I can't even remember 34. Decrepit? Been there, got the colostomy bag. Think I will be shopping for headstones next birthday. If I can find one with the words "sad old tosser" on it.
Christ, I can't even remember being 34...
But it was the Dawning Of Something or other...
Maybe the influx of U.S. citizens has something to do with the Nevil Shute Film Festival that ran on cable here a while back. Folks here always seen to get Australia and New Zealand confused anyway.
With my skills, I'm sure I would advance quickly to supermarket night manager or taxi dispatcher within days of clearing Customs.
Incidentally, thank you for the soft-core porn on your header. Nothing like a woman in stockings and a bodice to add to the appeal of any blog.
I want to make xmas cake, but I'm so, so lazy that I never get around to it. This year we'll be still living at mum and dad's probably so I'll not have much to organise at all. That's sort of a nice thought, and sort of really sad!
What kind of mixer did you get? I really need a new food processor, do you have one of those you could recommend?
Hey Rhiannon, I got a Kenwood mixer. It is red, and very pretty (looks retro, but is new). They're freaking expensive at Farmers, but a bargain at Moore Wilsons.
As for a food processor, haven't got much advice really. We've got a pretty basic one, and it is fine. Kind of has a small bowl, if I had my time again I'd get a bigger one. Actually, in hindsight (and this is just me) I'd get a blender and a cake mixer rather than a food processor.
