Updat on the fire

There was a HUGE fire on Jackson st this morning. Fortunately it was a building that had been emptied for demolition, unfortunately the frontage had been earmarked ON FRIDAY to be preserved (at some expense). Inneresting huh?

Draw your own conclusions.

Hmmm. Reminds me of the Mitre10 fire in J'ville, after Mitre10 had been told they couldn't get out of the lease...

I'm sure the developer is shocked, shocked to here there was arson going on.

FWIW up here in Auckers a developer was found guilty recently of cutting down a protected pohutukawa in Onehunga. He was prevented from developing the site while tree surgeons tried to save it, and eventually made to attend a restorative justice session where he narrowly escaped with his life from enraged tree lovers. And now he's paid a lovely big fine.

When the case first came up, initial reports were that some guys with chainsaws drove up and attacked the tree. He denied all knowledge to start with but eventually copped to paying them.

I'm sure there are NO parallels here at all, because property developers are among the most ethical and law-abiding citizens we have.

I saw it today and it would appear that the frontage was the only thing to survive. I hope it's able to be saved and the developer has to suck on a giant pair of donkey balls.

Yeah, I saw it today too. Bet they find that the structural integrity has been damaged beyond repair, or some such shit.

If those frickin buggers can't see that all the character is being lost from Jackson St, they can do exactly as you say.
