FYI
Woosh is shit.
Our Telstra cable is one million squillion times quicker. So if you're thinking broadband, don't think woosh. Although it was good for taking to Christchurch, but that is all (credit where credit is due).
Apart from that, Woosh is shit.
Amen

I am shifting to iHug in two weeks. Very precise date as that is the earliest date I can get off my Telecom plan without them stinging me $99 for the privilege. Can't wait.
Ben, our options were VERY limited because we're not Telecom customers, so Ihug, Slingshot, Orcon, Xtra were all out. I don't really even know how telstra compares, just that it and woosh were our only options!
And Mr Reasonable, yay, it is very refreshing changing! We've got both Woosh and Telstra at the moment until Feb, I was too impatient to wait - I figured in the grand scheme of things, $40 wouldn't kill me, and now I have wireless. Bless.
Unfortunaltely neither is actually broadband, just 'fast' cable. In the civilised world where there is actual choice of real broadband they look at us and wonder ... I can't wait until broadband comes to NZ
Is that right? I knew we were backwards, but not that backwards.
Someone was muttering something about March? Is there something to look forward to the, broadband wise?
Yep, my Woosh connection is rarely more than a few times faster than dialup. But the great advantage is that you don't need a physical connection installed, so if you move home a lot (like I do) you don't have to worry about getting reconnected or having a landline.
The other advantage for me is that I have a work laptop that I'm not allowed to connect to the work network (since I do development on it and we're not allowed any non-standard software on networked machines), so I can take my Woosh modem to work with me. All the marketing talk about surfing from the park is rubbish though, since the battery literally lasts no more than seconds. If only Cafenet had decent coverage!
Good point about the house shifting. I hadn't thought of that, and as we plan a move in the next year - probably should have!
