Yo

I wrote a very earnest post about my son's kindy, and my angst about whether to send him to Steiner...

And then I thought, you know? This just isn't going to be that kind of a blog. I promise to steer as well clear of anything serious as I can manage. Although, university starts next week, so there is no guarantee I won't start spouting Chomsky at y'all.

So here is a nice link to Conversations with Famous People, which is one of my guilty internet pleasures. It is much meaner about Britney than I feel comfortable with, but by hokey, it is funny.

Ah, exactly what I did! Complete with whinging about current kindy and raving about my old school.

But I'll just bide my time, ya know?

I think my parents must have had some angst themselves, because Steiner was a pretty out there choice.

Oh. So that's why I can't see it now, is it?

YOU went to Steiner school???

If so, I might have change my opinion of them.

Caroline, I think the principles behind Steiner are kind of woolly, but in terms of raising kids it is a very nice and supportive environment. And there are no crappy posters made 10 years in black vivid stuck on the walls.

Anne, any questions feel free to ask. My address in on my profile.

And Editter, yeah! That is another of my guilty pleasures.

I recently met a child from a Steiner school, daughter of some Pom friends of ours. She was a nightmare.
But then she might have been anyway...

It was certainly a problem with the second Steiner School I went to that parents would send their problem children there. Consequently my class was almost half made up of severely disturbed kids. I much preferred my Christchurch school!

Ohh, interesting. This kid goes somewhere down at the Mount. She has no social skills at all (she's 9) and was completely incapable of entertaining herself. I had to tell her that one of my house rules was that nobody is allowed to say "I'm bored".
She can't read yet either...
My 8 year old speaks (and reads!) Cantonese...

I AM a fan of some of these sorts of schools but - as your experience shows - I think one can end up with the disturbed/social misfit end of the spectrum.
Not you of course, dear!
